SANGEETA’s CD not only highlights the beauty and purity of her singing but also provides moments of great emotional intensity. The six tracks presented here are particularly interesting for their origins in the Bhajan tradition, a genre in which SANGEETA specializes. The texts of these devotional songs, hymns to spirituality and divine love that enjoy great popularity in Northern India, derive from sacred Hindu scriptures and can often be heard voiced in the intonation of pilgrims as they step into the Ganges or else during temple rites. Indeed their popularity is such that a number of famous players have transcribed them for their own instruments.
Notable is that all the music on this recording was composed by SANGEETA herself, revealing her to be a multifaceted artist, while the texts are the work of mystics and saints highly revered by Hindustani tradition, such as Meerbai whose odes to Krishna have attained enduring popularity over the centuries.
